Mangaluru: Karnataka bid farewell to one of its most celebrated leaders, former Chief Minister and Union Minister S.M. Krishna, as tributes poured in from across the political spectrum. Krishna, known for his visionary leadership, played a pivotal role in developing Bengaluru as India’s Silicon Valley and transforming Karnataka’s IT-BT sector.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed shock at Krishna’s demise, calling his contributions unparalleled. “Karnataka will remain indebted to him for his remarkable work in the IT-BT sector,” he posted on X, describing Krishna as a mentor and a model for aspiring politicians.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar called Krishna a "guiding star," crediting him for turning Bengaluru into a global hub and initiating projects like Metro Rail and Devanahalli Airport. Shivakumar reminisced about Krishna’s mentorship, adding, “He was my political mentor, guiding me through challenges and inspiring generations with his visionary leadership.”
Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai hailed Krishna as one of Karnataka’s most respected leaders, noting his integrity and immense contributions to Bengaluru’s growth and the mid-day meal scheme. “He was a role model for politicians and administrators alike,” Bommai said, highlighting Krishna’s commitment to Karnataka’s welfare.
IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge praised Krishna’s corporate approach to governance, while BJP leader R. Ashoka described him as a statesman who epitomized grace, vision, and dignity.
State BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra called Krishna a "proud Kannadiga" who bridged generations of politics with his refined leadership. “As long as Karnataka’s history is remembered, S.M. Krishna will remain immortal,” he added.
