Karnataka Seeks Fair Share from 16th Finance Commission

BENGALURU: The 16th Finance Commission will be on a two-day visit to Karnataka on Thursday and Friday to hold discussions with the officials concerned of department of finance in Bengaluru and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday exuded confidence in the 16th Finance Commission to render justice for the State in tax devolution.

He termed Karnataka got raw deal under the 15th Finance Commission and stated to convince the Finance Commission in the meeting over the raw deal meted out to Karnataka.

A requisition will be made at the meeting to the Finance Commission to hike tax share for Karnataka from 41 percent to 50 percent while also appealing to the Finance Commission to allocate share for States in cess and surcharges levied upon on fuel prices.

The Chief Minister said the Finance Commission will be told that the cess and surcharges have gone up while the share for States has declined in recent years and exuded confidence that the 16th Finance Commission would set things right.
