Karnataka: Student enrolment, SSLC results discussed at edu review meet
Belagavi: Issues such as student enrollment, learning outcomes, SSLC results, and school infrastructure took center stage during the review meeting chaired by Karnataka's Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Madhu Bangarappa at Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi on Wednesday.
Emphasizing the state government’s commitment to improving the overall quality of education in government schools, Madhu Bangarappa called for creating an environment to encourage regular attendance in government schools.
"Teachers and education department officials must work together with School Development and Monitoring Committees (SDMC) to ensure students are attending school consistently,” he said.
One of the key focus areas highlighted during the meeting was the declining enrollment in government schools. Madhu Bangarappa directed officials to identify the underlying causes and take immediate action to address the issue. He further asked the officials to use the "Namma Shaale Namma Javabdari" (Our School, Our Responsibility) program to engage successful alumni in improving the facilities and learning conditions of their former schools.
The Minister also stressed the need to improve SSLC results. He instructed officials to take comprehensive measures to enhance student performance, including regular school visits by Block Education Officers (BEOs) to monitor progress.
"We need to ensure every student is receiving the support they need to improve their results,” he said.
Special classes for students with low marks were proposed as a solution to boost academic performance and build a positive public image of the schools.
The minister also emphasized the need for the timely distribution of essential school supplies, including uniforms, books, shoes, and socks, which have been delayed in some regions. He warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against those responsible for any further delays.
Madhu Bangarappa directed that all projects approved under the Viveka School Scheme, including classroom renovations and the construction of toilets, must begin without delay. He also warned that funds allocated for these projects could be withdrawn if they are not started promptly.
Principal Secretary Rakesh Kumar Singh called for strict oversight on student attendance and learning quality. He emphasized that BEOs must conduct regular visits to ensure that schools are making progress in improving both attendance and exam results.
