Karnataka Students to Represent India at World Skills Competition

MANGALURU: Nine students from Karnataka have been selected by the Karnataka Skill Development Corporation (KSDC) to represent India at the prestigious 47th World Skills Competition in Lyon, France. Before their departure, the students met with Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, and Raichur district in-charge, at Bengaluru who extended his best wishes for their success.

Minister Patil encouraged the students to make the most of this remarkable opportunity, urging them to bring pride to the state and the nation by excelling in their respective skill categories and winning medals. The selected students are pursuing courses in ITI, Diploma, and Engineering across various regions in Karnataka.

Often described as the "Olympics of vocational skills," the World Skills Competition is the world’s largest event dedicated to vocational education and skill excellence. This year’s event, scheduled from September 10 to 15, will feature over 1,000 young participants under the age of 22 competing in 61 skill categories.

The KSDC, under the direction of the Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood (SDEL) Department, has been pivotal in offering platforms for Karnataka’s skilled youth to showcase their talents on both national and international stages.

Karnataka demonstrated its strong skills base by securing second place at the national level during the India Skills competition, held in New Delhi from May 15 to 19.

KSDC chairperson Kantha Naik, Karnataka Skill Development Authority chairperson Dr V Ramana Reddy, KSDC managing director M Kanagavalli, GTTC managing director YK Dinesh Kumar, NSDC advisor Venugopal were present during the occasion.
