Karnataka: Tungabhadra Dam Gate Installation Progresses After Damage

Hosapete: The first plate of the stop gate at the Tungabhadra Dam was successfully installed on Friday night, a crucial step taken after spillway gate No. 19 was washed away on August 10.

Minority Welfare and Vijayanagara district in-charge minister Zameer Ahmed Khan informed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah about the success of the first phase of the stop gate installation via a phone call.

"A total of five plates are to be installed, and the stop gate installation work is expected to be completed by Saturday," he told reporters.

Khan, who has been staying at Vaikuntha Guest House for the past three days to oversee the installation process, has been visiting the site twice daily to monitor the progress of the work.

Khan expressed gratitude to the technical team for their relentless efforts, which led to the successful completion of the first phase of the stop gate installation.

Koppal in-charge Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi who too has been continuously supervising the work at the dam celebrated by distributing sweets to experts led by Kannayya Naidu and the staff involved in the work.

"The installation of the remaining plates will commence tomorrow morning at 6 am. There is no need for farmers to worry. The inflow to the dam is increasing, and we are confident that it will be filled again," he added.

Koppal MP Rajasekhar Hitnal, and MLAs Gaviappa and Kampli Ganesh were also present at the site.

Tourism, Law, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil also visited the dam on Friday. "The installation of the gate is progressing well. Senior officials and experts are on-site, with the district in-charge ministers of Koppal and Vijayanagara supervising and providing necessary assistance," Patil informed reporters.

"Two more elements are yet to arrive. We expect positive results within three days," he added.
