BENGALURU: A delegation of spiritual and political leaders belonging to Lingayat community, a politically dominant caste of Karnataka, met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his residence ‘Cauvery’ in Bengaluru on Monday and urged him to install a gigantic statue of 12th century social reformer Basavanna in Kempegowda International Airport road among other demands, budgetary allocation of Rs 100 in each budget of the State Government for the next four years among others.
The delegation met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ahead of his budget presentation on March 7 and responding to their request, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told the delegation to concede their demands in a phased manner.
Among the demands of the delegation included Rs 100 crore budgetary allocation each in every budget to spread the teachings of Basavanna which is necessary to spread the teachings among the forthcoming generations, a ‘Sharanara Darshan’ Centre on the lines Akshara Dham and allocate 25 acres for the purpose, ‘Vachana University’ to be set-up at Basavakalyan in Bidar district where Anubhava Mantapa is being constructed and construction of ‘Basava Bhavana’ at all district headquarters and it should become a place for holding cultural events through the department of Kannada and Culture.
The delegation comprised Basavalinga Mahaswami, Basavalinga Devaru, Mahaling Swami, among others while Minister of Large and Medium Scale Industries M.B. Patil, MLA B.R. Patil among others were present.
