Man misbehaves with 5-year-old girl; case registered under POCSO Act in Udupi

Udupi: A case under the POCSO Act has been registered at the Women’s Police Station in Udupi following an incident in which a man allegedly touched a five-year-old child inappropriately.

Giving details about the incident, Udupi District SP Dr. Arun K stated that the child was playing near a shop when a man signaled that he would give her chocolate. The girl went to him and he took the child to a nearby gully and touched inappropriately. The child shouted following which he escaped from the spot.
The police verified CCTV footage. On verification it was found that the person had come for begging and was conversing in Tulu.
“We have shared the photo of the accused with the people and request people to inform our control room if they have any information,” the SP said.
The child has been provided counselling.
Meanwhile, Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, who also holds the position of Udupi District In-charge Minister, has instructed officials to take immediate action.
Minister Hebbalkar, who is currently receiving treatment for injuries sustained in an accident, spoke with the district police chief and the deputy commissioner as soon as she received information about the incident.
Taking the incident seriously, the minister directed the authorities to apprehend the accused immediately and ensure that all necessary support is provided to the child. She also emphasized the need to offer the child any required assistance.
