Mangaluru Police Open Fire on Rowdy Sheeter

Kalaburagi: Police opened fire on a rowdy sheeter who attempted to escape by attacking an officer in Madiyal, under Nimbarga police station limits, around 45 kilometers from Kalaburagi, early Saturday morning.

He is currently undergoing treatment at the government hospital, and his condition is reported to be stable.
The accused, Lakshman Poojary, a rowdy sheeter, charged in connection with several cases, including a recent murder in Aland police station limits on September 13, was cornered by a special police team at 6 am.
During the operation, Poojary, armed with a knife, assaulted one of the Sub Inspectors, injuring her on the right hand.
In response, the PSI from Afzalpur station, who was part of the team, fired a warning shot into the air. When the accused ignored the warning the officer fired a shot, striking him in the right leg.
"The accused sustained injuries to his right leg. He is currently receiving treatment at the government hospital," Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu told Deccan Chronicle.
His condition is said to be stable.
Poojary has about 10 cases against him. According to sources, he had been on the run after the recent murder, evading arrest by avoiding mobile phones and public transport. If he wanted to call anybody, he was known to request passersby for their phones under the pretext of contacting family members, making tracking his movements challenging for authorities.
Police said that the administration had initiated an externment process against Poojary during the recent Assembly and Parliament elections. He is also accused of escaping from Kalaburagi prison five years ago.
After weeks of intense groundwork, police finally tracked him down at Madiyal, leading to today's arrest.
