Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar Pledges Action in Karkala Rape Case

UDUPI: Minister for Women and Child Development and District In-Charge Lakshmi Hebbalkar has assured to take stringent action regarding the kidnap and rape of a woman in Karkala.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation.

The Minister, in a statement, assured that she is in continuous communication with the police and has directed them to take a firm stance.

"A thorough investigation is underway, and we are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice. Two suspects have already been arrested in connection with the case. We will pursue justice relentlessly, with no leniency for the guilty," she said. The police are exploring all aspects of the case.

The Minister also noted that the district administration has been directed to implement preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future and to take rigorous action against the offenders.

The victim initially received treatment at Karkala Government Hospital and has been transferred to a private facility in Manipal for further care. Hebbalkar assured that the district administration is providing comprehensive support and assistance to the victim.

In related developments, Durga Vahini has called for strict action against those involved and highlighted the issue of drug trafficking.

Durgavahini District Coordinator Shwetha described the incident as potentially part of a pre-planned conspiracy targeting Hindu women, with concerns about a systematic team orchestrating such crimes.

"This case underscores the widespread issue of drug network in the coastal region," Shwetha said in a press statement.

"The police must handle this case with the utmost seriousness, conduct a thorough investigation, and ensure that the accused get the maximum punishment. It is crucial to establish a dedicated team to address the rampant drug networks in the region." She also urged parents to closely monitor their children to prevent such incidents.
