MUDA: Court Sets May 7 Next Hearing

A local court here permitted the Lokayukta, Mysuru wing, to proceed with its investigation into the alleged plot distribution irregularities by the Mysore Urban Development Authority (Muda) and to file its conclusive report before May 7.

Bengaluru:A local court here permitted the Lokayukta, Mysuru wing, to proceed with its investigation into the alleged plot distribution irregularities by the Mysore Urban Development Authority (Muda) and to file its conclusive report before May 7.

The Lokayukta, after investigating the case, had given a clean chit in its ‘B final’ report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his family members citing lack of evidence to establish the use of political influence in plot allotments. The 82nd Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge kept pending its decision on the acceptance or rejection of the report.

Social activist Snehamayi Krishna, a petitioner in the case, moved the Karnataka High Court against the Lokayukta report and sought investigation under the Criminal Procedure Code. Hearing the case, the court considered the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), applicant in the case, as an aggrieved person. ED sleuths have taken-up investigation in the Muda plot money-laundering.

The Lokayukta had found no evidence against Siddaramaiah, the first accused, his wife B.M. Parvathi and his brother-in-law Mallikarjun Swamy in alleged plot distribution irregularities. A notice was served to petitioner Snehamayi Krishna to file objections if any, on February 19.

Earlier, based on the order of the High Court, the Lokayukta took up investigation into the allegations in the ‘Muda’ scam. Muda officials had allotted 14 plots to Parvathi in lieu of her losing 3.16 acres in Kesare of Mysuru taluk. The plots were in a posh layout, leading to suspicion that Siddaramaiah might have exercised his political influence in the allocations.
