BENGALURU: “Anything can happen in politics overnight,” said president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Monday responding to a query on nominations to the Legislative Council.

Shivakumar was asked whether nominations to the Legislative Council can happen before or after the budget session. The budget session will commence on March 3 and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah holding the Finance portfolio is set to present the budget on March 7.

After a meeting with party leaders, Shivakumar, at a press conference, said “Any decisions can happen overnight in politics” and stated “Only one night is enough (for decisions to change).”

Elaborating on the nominations for Legislative Council, Shivakumar said “I and the Chief Minister will leave for New Delhi (to meet high command) and the visit has been delayed by a month. The appointment was fixed on January 28 (owing to knee injury to the CM visit was postponed.”

“Now that the CM is able to walk, we will visit New Delhi,” said the Deputy Chief Minister and replying to a question said none of the party workers have expressed displeasure over not being made MLCs.

“They might have told you. I’m here to attend to party workers' concerns,” he said. Asked whether he will lead the Congress party in the 2028 Assembly polls, Shivakumar said though whatever position I might be in. It is my duty to strive for the success of the party.
