Siddaramaiah Suspends Officials Over Special Treatment to Actor Darshan

BELAGAVI: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that seven officials have been placed under suspension following allegations of special treatment provided to actor Darshan at Parappana Agrahara Jail.

Speaking to reporters at Belagavi, he said that a decision on whether Darshan will be transferred to another prison will be made soon.

Darshan has been in prison for nearly two months on murder charges.

Siddaramaiah confirmed that lapses by officials in the actor's case had come to light, resulting in the suspension of seven officials.

"If further involvement by other officials is discovered, they too will face action," he assured.

The Chief Minister stressed that the lapses occurred at the official level and vowed that additional measures would be taken against those responsible.

"I have spoken to Home Minister G Parameshwara and asked him to conduct a thorough review. Based on his report, appropriate action will be taken," Siddaramaiah said.

When asked about Union Minister Pralhad Joshi's criticism that the state government favors the affluent, Siddaramaiah defended his administration's policies. "We have demonstrated our commitment to the people by implementing five guarantees. What moral right does he have to question us?" he retorted.

Regarding the Belagavi district, Siddaramaiah noted that it is a large region, and discussions will be held with legislators about a potential splitting of the district.
