Sudha Murty pledges MPLAD funds for development of Vijayapura district

Murty announced plans to establish a Dharmashala (rest house) within the district hospital premises to assist patients’ families who cannot afford hotel accommodations

Vijayapura: Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murty has designated Vijayapura district as a nodal district for development, pledging to utilize the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Fund for comprehensive improvements across the region.

On Tuesday, Sudha Murty convened a meeting with officials from various departments at the Deputy Commissioner’s office to discuss the development plans.

Speaking to the media afterward, she highlighted her personal connection to the district.

“My ancestors hail from Savalgi in Jamkhandi Taluk, and I have a deep bond with Vijayapura. I have chosen it as my nodal district. We will deploy the MPLAD funds to enhance infrastructure and facilities here,” she said.

Murty announced plans to establish a Dharmashala (rest house) within the district hospital premises to assist patients’ families who cannot afford hotel accommodations.

“We intend to build this facility to provide comfort and support to those in need,” she said adding that the Infosys Foundation had constructed 13 Dharmashalas in the country.

Other development plans in the district include the construction of well-equipped libraries with computer facilities in Talikot, Basavan Bagewadi, and Sindagi, a gymnasium on government land and to upgrade the water pavilion in Kumtagi. Efforts will also focus on preserving the local pond and enhancing the palace and fort to attract tourists.

Sudha Murty highlighted the need for basic amenities such as drinking water and sanitation facilities in schools, anganwadis, and hostels, emphasizing the importance of proper maintenance. She also stressed the necessity of promoting health awareness, personal hygiene, and the use of toilets.

For the holistic development of girls in residential facilities managed by the Social Welfare Department, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department, and Minority Welfare Department, she proposed the inclusion of libraries, personality development programs, swimming, and sports activities.

She also stressed on the improvement of facilities at tourist destinations.
