Karnataka:13 Killed in Haveri in Bus Accident


Haveri: 13 people were killed and four injured in a devastating accident that occurred during the wee hours on Friday at Gundenahalli Cross in Haveri district.
The accident occurred on NH 48 at Gundenahalli Cross in Byadgi Police Station limits at 3.45 am on Friday. All the victims are from Yemehatti of Bhadravati Taluk in Shivamogga district.
Police said that the Tempo Traveller, carrying 17 passengers, collided with a stationary lorry parked on the side of the highway. The impact of the collision resulted in the death of 13 people.
The victims had been on a pilgrimage to temples in Maharashtra and North Karnataka. They had left Yemehatti on June 24 and were scheduled to return on June 28. Completing the tour they were on their way back when the accident occurred.
The deceased have been identified as Adarsh (25) (driver), Arun Kumar (32), Nageshwar Rao (50), Bhagyabai (45), Vishalakshi (49), Subhadrabai (60), Anjali (29), Manjulabai (60), Manasa (20), Roopa Bai (35), Manjula (54), Arya (5) and Nandana (3).
Injured include Annapoorna (52), Arpita (17), Parashuram (48) and Gautham (12).
Senior Police officials led by Haveri Superintendent of Police Anshu Kumar visited the spot. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.

District in-charge minister Shivananda Patil, after speaking with officials and gathering details, personally provided Rs 50,000 to each family of the deceased.
ADGP (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar visited the accident spot with IGP Eastern Range, Thiyagarajan inspected the accident spot and met the NHAI officials.
Alok Kumar instructed NHAI to put up more signage boards, start announcements at toll booth regarding night driving, and avoid overspeeding. He also directed to hold special drives against overspeeding and drunken driving and create awareness among road users to avoid accidents.
President of India Droupadi Murmu expressed her condolences over the tragic accident.
"It is saddening to learn of the death of several pilgrims including women and children in a bus accident in Karnataka’s Haveri district. I offer my condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured," an official post on X stated.
Haveri MP and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai condoled the death and asked the state government to provide compensation to the families of the victims and proper treatment to the injured.
