Vijayanagar district Dy commissioner takes cycle tour of Hospet to assess monsoon preparedness

The Deputy Commissioner began his inspection with visits to various stormwater drains. With pre-monsoon and monsoon rains already beginning, he instructed officials to ensure that plastic bottles and other debris do not obstruct the canals, preventing water from flooding the roads

Hosapete: Riding a bicycle, Vijayanagara District Deputy Commissioner MS Divakara undertook a tour of Hospet city on Saturday, assessing the condition and preparedness for the monsoon season.

In the background of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Deputy Commissioner was busy with election duties. Concurrently, he held several meetings of the District Disaster Management Authority, issuing directives to officials to take necessary precautions ahead of the monsoon rains.

Following the completion of the Lok Sabha election process and the lifting of the Model Code of Conduct by the Election Commission of India on June 6, the Deputy Commissioner visited various places in the city on Saturday, despite it being a holiday.

The Deputy Commissioner began his inspection with visits to various stormwater drains. With pre-monsoon and monsoon rains already beginning, he instructed officials to ensure that plastic bottles and other debris do not obstruct the canals, preventing water from flooding the roads.

He then toured different wards of the city, engaging with residents about drinking water supply and sanitation. Noticing potholes, he emphasized the need to maintain pothole-free main roads for public convenience and directed officials to install speed breakers and road diversions scientifically.

The DC visited the residential areas of pourakarmikas (sanitation workers), addressing their concerns and instructing the Municipal Commissioner to maintain roads and drainage systems in these areas.

Acknowledging Hampi's status as a major tourist destination, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of Hosapete presenting itself as a clean and well-equipped city, with good roads, toilets, and drinking water infrastructure. He directed officials to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for scientifically repairing the drainage system to ensure proper hygiene.

In anticipation of the rainy season, he instructed municipal corporation officials to form teams to address any issues. He warned that disciplinary action would be taken against health inspectors if complaints of unhygienic conditions persisted despite verbal instructions.
