Vokkaliga Seer Demands Law to Revoke Voting Rights of Muslims
Bengaluru: Pontiff of Vishwa Vokkaliga Mahasamsthana Mutt Chandrashekaranatha Swamiji on Tuesday wanted a law to be introduced in the country to withdraw voting rights to Muslims in order to establish peace in the society.
Another reason given by the seer to take away voting rights of Muslims was that by denying voting rights, it would be possible for the nation to attain “glory.” The seer accused political parties of treating Muslims as ‘vote bank’ (to win elections) and felt “It is absolutely necessary to take away voting rights of Muslims.” The Mutt is based in Kengeri of Bengaluru city.
Speaking at a protest in Freedom Park in Bengaluru city against Karnataka State Board for Wakfs claiming properties especially farm lands, Chandarshekaranatha Swamiji referred to the system in Pakistan where except for Muslims no other religions have no voting power. Similarly, no voting rights should be given for Muslims in the country.
The other demand of the seer was abolition of Wakf Board over its claim over other''s properties. Claiming properties of others, the seer said “It is not dharma” and “unacceptable.”
After alighting from the dais, the Vokkaliga seer criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah accusing him of having “appeasement politics” towards Muslims and thereby rendering “injustice” to Hindus. He accused the Chief Minister of supporting Muslims and giving them all rights and recalled that “Siddaramaiah expressed a wish to be born as a Muslim (in his next birth).”
The Swamiji said Muslims came to India about 1,500 years ago and razed many temples and built mosques in their places. “It is injustice,” said the Swamiji and stated “Earlier Hindus were not united but now it is not the situation.” State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra spoke.
The protest was organized by members of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh.
