Yatnal criticizes govt for ignoring ASHA workers protest
Vijayapura: Bijapur City MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal has criticized the state government for ignoring the plight of ASHA workers protesting in the harsh cold at Bengaluru’s Freedom Park. Calling the government’s indifference “inhumane,” Yatnal expressed outrage over the absence of any representatives from the government to address the workers’ concerns.
In a post on X, he stated that ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers play a crucial role in delivering essential healthcare services. Their responsibilities include promoting health awareness, ensuring safe childbirth, supporting infant care, raising awareness about nutrition, and working tirelessly to prevent infectious diseases like tuberculosis, malaria, and dengue.
“During the elections, the Congress had promised to raise ASHA workers’ salaries to Rs 15,000. Now, it has gone back on its word,” Yatnal said. He highlighted the rising cost of living and inflation, which have made it increasingly difficult for ASHA workers to sustain their families.
He demanded that the Congress government act immediately, honor its commitment, and raise ASHA workers' salaries to Rs 15,000 as promised.
