Boby Chemmanur Taken into Custody in Sexual Harassment Case by Honey Rose
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala police on Wednesday arrested businessman Boby Chemanur on the complaint filed by Honey Rose, a prominent Malayalam actor, who accused him of making repeated sexually inappropriate remarks that insulted womanhood.
Boby was taken into custody from his resort in Mepadi in Wayanad at 12 noon and brought to Central Police Station, Ernakulam by road on Wednesday evening. Subsequently, his arrest was recorded at the police station.
A case was registered against Boby on Tuesday under section 75 (4) (sexually coloured remarks ) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material through electronic media) of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
The actor had also recorded her statement in camera before the Ernakulam judicial first class magistrate court.
In her complaint, Rose specifically highlighted the incident at the inauguration of the Chemmanur Jewellery store in Alakode, Kannur on August 7 where she was subjected to unacceptable behaviour. She also shared her experiences of facing problems on various platforms after the incident.
The actor has also lodged complaints against at least 20 YouTubers for using obscene thumbnails featuring her image in their videos. She has resolved to stand up against harassment and exploitation.
Earlier in the day, Boby was taken into custody by the Kochi police while he was planning to leave for Coimbatore for the inauguration of his Jewellery store. Though the businessman told police that he would travel to Ernakulam by his own car, the cops denied permission and brought him in the police vehicle.
Boby had reportedly planned to file an anticipatory bail plea even while tendering a public apology through social media, but with the chief minister himself intervening in the matter, the cops swung into action and took him into custody. A Special Investigation Team has also been constituted to probe the case.
Honey Rose took to social media to thank the chief minister and Kerala police on behalf of her family.
"I and my family express my heartfelt gratitude to Shri Pinarayi Vijayan, who heads the Kerala government for taking action by giving me a strong assurance in my fight for protection of the citizen promised by the Constitution of India,"
"You may believe in the power of your wealth, but I trust India's legal system," the actor had posted a strong message on social media against offenders like Boby.
