Bomb Threat at Kerala Vet College Turns Out to Be a Hoax

Anti-sabotage bomb disposal teams and dog squads were deployed in the institute.

Thiruvananthapuram: A veterinary college in Wayanad, Kerala, received a bomb threat on Friday morning, which police later deemed a hoax after a thorough search.

The Vice Chancellor of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University K S Anil said an email was received on his and the Registrar’s mail from an account named Nivedita Prithviraj, claiming that IEDs were placed at the college and the US consulate in Chennai.

The VC said the reason attributed for planting the bombs was the unfair hanging of Afzal Guru. The mail further said that the bombs were placed by a Naxal leader called T Maran.

Soon after getting the message the vice chancellor got in touch with the police and immediately the anti-sabotage bomb disposal teams and dog squads were deployed in the institute for a search operation.

According to police, after a thorough search of the campus, the search teams could not find anything suspicious. Senior police officials said the email, which was a group message, appeared to be a hoax aimed at creating panic among the public.

The police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the source of the email.
