Congress Led Opposition UDF to Launch a Series of Agitations Against LDF Government in Kerala
Campaign to raise issues like drug menaces, increasing crimes, slashing of SC/ST, minority funds, neglect of high range farmers, coastal population

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress-led opposition UDF in Kerala will launch a state-wide campaign raising a host of issues, such as the growing drug menace and heinous crimes in the state.
UDF convenor M M Hassan told media persons after the front leadership’s high-level meeting in Kochi that a fast will be observed in front of the state secretariat on March 5 on these issues on the slogan “No crime, No Drugs.” He accused the police and excise department of being inactive in curbing drugs and crimes in the state because of the politicisation of the uniformed force.
On March 13, the UDF planned a protest in Kochi against the slashing of SC/ST funds and minority funds. This will be followed by a day and night protest in front of all local bodies across the state.
The UDF will take out a long march to raise the issues of farmers residing in high-range districts. A coastal yatra will be held from April 21 to 30, starting from Nellikunnu in Kasargod and culminating at Vizhinjam in the Thiruvananthapruam district. The problems of the coastal people will be raised during the Yatra.
In the run-up to the local body polls, the UDF will organise training camps for its grassroots-level workers.
Sea sand mining issue
The UDF has turned down the request from the ruling LDF to join hands in fighting against sea sand mining. “On the one hand the LDF government has given a free hand for sea sand mining, and on the other, it wants to stage a drama protest, said UDF convenor.
UDF slams CPM for inviting BJP leader on their platform
The UDF slammed the CPM leadership for inviting BJP leader P K Krishnadas to speak at a seminar in Kollam held in connection with the forthcoming state conference of the party. He alleged that the invite to the BJP leader to share the stage at the programme exposed the CPM-Sangh Parivar tie-up ahead of the local body polls.
The CPM has rejected the charge, saying the party is not averse to hearing the opinion of the rivals on major issues. It is a democratic platform where people can express their views.
