CPI(M) Kerala Severs Ties with Nilambur MLA PV Anvar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Kerala has severed all ties with the dissenting MLA from Nilambur, P V Anvar, accusing him of following a right-wing political agenda, to destroy the Left Democratic Front and its government.

At a press conference in Delhi on Friday, M V Govindan, the state secretary of the CPM, claimed that Anvar was supported by adversaries of the party and urged workers and sympathizers to oppose Anvar's campaign. He asserted that regardless of who tries to destroy the party, their efforts will not prevail.

Soon after Govindan's press conference, hundreds of party workers took protest marches at various places including Nilambur, Kozhikode and Malappuram, against Anvar warning him against touching the red flag of the party.

The party workers who carried the effigy of Anvar raised slogans against him to oppose his attempts to weaken the party.

The MLA had launched a scathing attack against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday, accusing him of protecting corrupt police officials and his political secretary, promoting his son-in-law.

The CPM state secretary stated that Anvar had announced on Thursday his decision to not be part of the CPM parliamentary party and that he had severed all ties with the LDF. "Since Anvar is not a party member, no further action is necessary," he remarked.

Addressing the accusations made by Anvar, Govindan noted that serious charges of gold smuggling and corruption against the chief minister, government, and party leaders had surfaced even before the 2021 Assembly elections. Nonetheless, the party secured a remarkable victory, historically winning a second term in office.

He stated that the state's populace dismissed the unfounded accusations and propaganda directed at the chief minister and the government. "The opposition had deliberated on their prospective chief minister as well. However, they encountered an overwhelming defeat," he declared.

Anvar, who had previously praised PWD Minister Mohammad Riyaz on social media, is now criticizing him. The MLA has accused the Chief Minister of favoring Riyaz, his son-in-law. Anvar's stance is seen as opportunistic, Govindan said.

The CPM state secretary stated that Riyaz was elected to the assembly during his tenure as the all-India president of DYFI. It is not unprecedented for chief ministers to face allegations; this has been the case from the time of EMS Namboodiripad through to V S Achuthanandan.

Countering Anvar's accusation that the party was dominated by the chief minister and that even the state secretary was constrained, Govindan stated that the party operates under a collective leadership, not by an individual. He affirmed that not just Anvar, but no one could dismantle the party.

He also mentioned that the government is investigating the allegations made by Anvar, including those against the ADGP. A high-level inquiry has been initiated by the chief minister, led by the DGP. "There is no intention of shielding the ADGP," he declared
