Kerala CM suspends Pathanamthitta district police chief Sujith Das

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday ordered the suspension of Pathanamthitta district police chief Sujith Das.

In a statement the chief minister's office said that DIG Ajita Begum was asked to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the allegations leveled against Sujith Das. The inquiry conducted by the DIG found serious lapses on the part of Sujith Das. Based on the findings of the inquiry, the chief minister ordered his suspensions.

The IPS officer was in the news for all the wrong reasons recently. Nilambur MLA P V Anvar had made a telephone conversation with the SP public. In the audio clip, Sujith Das is heard pleading with the MLA to withdraw a complaint that he had filed in connection with illegal tree feeling in Malappuram SP office.

The illegal tree felling reportedly took place when Sujith was the district police chief of Malappuram.

The SP was also heard levelling serious allegations against ADGP M R Ajith Kumar. The telephone conversation had triggered a major controversy in the police force and the government.
