LDF Wins 17 of 30 Wards in Kerala Local Body Byelections UDF Gets 12 Wards
BJP draws blank, SDPI wrests UDF seat

Thiruvananthapuram: The ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) won 17 local body wards while Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) was not too far behind securing 12 wards in the by-elections held in 30 wards across 13 districts of Kerala. The BJP drew a blank.
The UDF wrested five wards from LDF; Paipra, Asmanoor in Ernakulam district, Thirunavaya in Malappuram, Purameri and Ayiroor in Pathanamthitta district.
LDF wrested a ward each in Poovachal in Thiruvananthapuram, Vathikudy in Idukki, and Paingottoor Ernakulam district.
SDPI wrested a sitting seat from UDF in Pangod.
A total of 38,919 voters cast their votes in the byelections held on Monday registering a turnout of 65.83 percent. The elections were held in one corporation ward, two block panchayat wards, three municipal wards, and 24 grama panchayat wards.
