AICC observers Mukul Wasnik, Ajay Maken meet MLAs, leaders of alliance partners. Observers to return to Delhi, to submit a report to the high command Decision likely by Sunday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The newly elected Congress MLAs in Kerala on Thursday passed a resolution entrusting AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge with the decision to choose the legislature party leader. AICC observers Mukul Wasnik and Ajay Maken attended the meeting at the PCC headquarters, Indira Bhavan. “The observers were here to meet colleagues and party MLAs, and the meeting went very well. The resolution, moved by PCC president Sunny Joseph and seconded by outgoing Opposition Leader V D Satheeshan, unanimously authorized the Congress president to decide who will be the CLP leader,” said Wasnik.

“We met with the MLAs individually to hear their opinions. We’re heading to Delhi this evening, and after that, we’ll submit a detailed report to the AICC president. A decision will follow soon,” said Ajay Makan.

Opposition Leader V D Satheeshan, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal and veteran leader Ramesh Chennithala are the front-runners for the CM's post.

PCC president Sunny Joseph mentioned that the meeting with the newly elected MLAs was held in the presence of the AICC observers, and the high command will decide after reviewing their report. Following discussions with Congress legislators, the AICC observers also met with delegations from UDF allies. “We shared our party’s opinion with the observers, who said they would present our views to the AICC leadership and return later. We’ll wait for the Congress high command’s decision,” said P.K. Kunhalikutty, leader of the Muslim League legislature party.

However, he declined to share the opinion expressed by the party delegation before the AICC observers. The RSP legislature party delegation also met with the AICC observers. “Neither we nor the AICC observers discussed any names. We simply requested them to make a decision as soon as possible in light of the massive mandate received by the UDF,” said RSP leader Shibu Baby John. Delegations from other UDF allies, including the Kerala Congress (Joseph) and Kerala Congress (Jacob), also met the AICC observers to present their views.
