Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Health Minister announced on Monday that the Nipah virus spread in the state is under control.
The health department has implemented comprehensive measures to manage the outbreak.
A total of 78 individuals, previously categorized as suspected cases, have tested negative for the virus. The state heightened its alert status following the demise of a 24-year-old man, a Bengaluru student who had come home to seek treatment for a leg injury. He developed a fever and passed away on September 9.
Presently, 32 individuals are under observation at the Manjeri Government Medical College and another hospital.
A total of 267 individuals, including 81 health workers, have been identified in the contact list of the young person. Among them, 177 are on the primary contact list and 90 on the secondary. Out of these, 134 individuals are categorized as high-risk.
The authorities have designated two panchayats in the Malappuram district as containment zones, banning large public gatherings. Educational institutions and entertainment venues within these zones have been closed.
