Shashi Tharoor Calls for Workplace Reform After Death of EY Employee
Congress leader and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has called for legislative action to address inhumane workplace practices following the tragic death of 25-year-old Ernst & Young employee Anna Sebastian. In a heartfelt statement on social media platform X.com, Tharoor shared details of his conversation with Anna's father, Shri Sibi Joseph, who described the immense pressure his daughter faced working seven days a week for up to 14 hours a day, which preceded her cardiac arrest.
Tharoor expressed his support for a proposal to introduce legislation limiting work hours to a maximum of eight hours a day, five days a week across both the private and public sectors. "Inhumanity at the workplace must be legislated out of existence with stringent punishment and fines for offenders. Human rights do not stop at the workplace!" Tharoor wrote, vowing to raise the matter during the next parliamentary session.

The proposed reforms seek to address increasing concerns over employee burnout and workplace stress in high-demand industries.
