Three Killed After Tipper Lorry Crashes Into Bus Stop in Kerala

Kollam: In a tragic incident, three people, including a 15-year-old boy, died and several others sustained injuries after a tipper lorry carrying sand lost control and tipped onto a bus stop in Kollam district of Kerala on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred at Neeleswaram, Neduvathoor, when the lorry crashed into the wall of a house in Mukkonikukku.
The deceased were identified as Parthipan, 15, a tenth standard student; Harilal, 54, an insurance agent; and Ajayakumar, 40, a mechanic with the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).
The lorry, which was speeding, lost control while overtaking a bike. As it tipped, the sand load fell onto the bus stop, trapping people there. Eyewitnesses said at least a dozen people were waiting at the bus stand at the time, most of them office-goers and school or college students.
Fire force units from nearby Kundara and Kottarakara rushed to the site and began rescue operations with the help of police and residents. Initially, two people were pulled out from under the sand, followed by the remaining victims. While two died on the way to the hospital, the third succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.
