Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the State government will provide Rs 6000 as rent assistance for families living in relief camps, affected by the Wayanad landslide.

The Chief Minister also said that the government will provide Rs 6 lakh to the kin of the deceased and those who suffered 60 per cent physical disability and 40-50 per cent physical disability in the landslide will receive Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.

Pinarayi Vijayan said, "233 bodies and 206 body parts have been recovered in Wayanad so far. 118 people remain missing."

"Additionally, Rs 50,000 will be given to those who have sustained serious injuries," CM added. Vijayan said that these funds will be allocated from the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF).

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi carried out an aerial survey of the Wayanad and assured that the Centre will provide all possible help in the relief and rehabilitation efforts in the landslide-hit areas of Wayanad district.

According to a new rapid attribution study by a global team of scientists, the deadly landslides in Kerala's Wayanad district were triggered by a heavy burst of rainfall, made 10 per cent heavier by climate change.
