Kurnool: Villagers of Pachharla in Sirivella mandal staged a rasta roko on the Nandyala-Giddalur road on Wednesday demanding the capture of a leopard that killed a woman the previous day. The leopard attacked the victim, former vice sarpanch Shaik Mehroon Bi, 40, while she had been collecting firewood in the forest.
Earlier, the leopard attacked another villager Shaik Bibi, who escaped. The protests disrupted traffic between Prakasam and Nandyala districts.
A surveillance camera on the premises of Mahanandi Temple also spotted a leopard in the goshala area. The wild animal has been sighted at various locations around the temple for over 10 days, causing panic among pilgrims and locals.
Residents in the area are frustrated with forest officials for not capturing and relocating the wild animal. Forest department inspected the area after receiving reports of the leopard's presence on Wednesday.
