Man Escapes Falling Prey to Cyber Crooks

Hyderabad: A 28-year-old private employee from Hyderabad escaped falling prey to cyber crooks because of his timely action and awareness about the nature of such scams.

The youth got an automated call with the caller claiming to be from DHL and informing him that his parcel that is alleged to contain prohibited items (MDMA) has been rejected. The caller then claimed this parcel was bound to Iran while it was being transported from Mumbai and he was instructed to press 1 for more details.

The man who was aware of such scams, asked the fraudster (caller) to meet him in person to discuss the issue. The fraudster got furious, saying he shouldn't have pressed 1 had he wanted to visit them. He threatened him of lodging a complaint with the crime branch of the Mumbai police.

Meanwhile, the victim refused to budge and insisted on meeting the caller in person. The victim went on following the fraudster’s instructions, eventually leading to the fraudster asking for Rs 15,36,000 to settle the matter. However, the victim immediately reported the matter to cybercrime police and escaped from the clutches of the fraudster.
