Suryapet: Demolition of illegal structures encroaching on roads in Suryapet municipality took a political turn with BRS leaders alleging that properties of their party leaders were targeted.
The special task force of the Suryapet municipality has taken up a drive to demolish illegal constructions following complaints from people about structures and ramps encroaching on roads and causing traffic jams.
The row started after the ramp of a hospital building and a restaurant, both owned by BRS leaders, constructed in the area of full tank level (FTL) of Saddala Cheruvu were demolished.
Examining the debris of the restaurant, former minister and BRS Suryapet MLA G. Jagadish Reddy alleged that officials were taking up demolition of buildings of BRS leaders due to pressure from the ruling party. He asked the officials not to become a part of the vengeful acts.
Suryapet municipal commissioner Srinivas clarified that demolition of structures was taken up by the municipal authorities only after issuing notices to their owners.
Messages went viral in social media, saying BRS leaders constructed buildings occupying nalas in violation of the rules and 100 huts of poor families were removed at Pulla Reddy Cheruvu during BRS government.
