High Alert as Heavy Rains Continue to Batter Telangana

Hyderabad: The state government has issued a high alert across Telangana as heavy rains continue to affect several districts and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting more rainfall in the next five days.

Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and chief secretary A. Santhi Kumari held a video conference with district collectors on Tuesday to take stock of the situation and coordinate efforts to prevent loss of life and property.

Srinivas Reddy underscored the urgency to take up immediate and coordinated measures to mitigate the adverse impact of heavy rains. He directed collectors to assess local conditions and consider declaring holidays for educational institutions as a precautionary measure, if necessary. This is especially so in regions where weather poses a greater risk.

He lauded the efforts of local authorities in minimising public inconvenience despite the severity of the rainfall in Greater Hyderabad, Nizamabad, and other areas.

The Minister stressed the importance of maintaining high levels of vigilance, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, with a focus on Greater Hyderabad.

Reddy called for an enhanced cooperation among municipal, metro water and traffic departments to ensure uninterrupted operations and safeguard public safety. He recommended control rooms in all district collectorates to provide continuous support and address any emergencies that may arise due to the heavy rains.
