Students Must be Taught Importance of Green Cover: Seethakka

Warangal: Panchayat Raj minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka on Sunday asked officials to show accountability while completing their assigned work.

Participating in the vanamahotsavam at the social welfare gurukul school in Jakaram of Mulugu district, the minister said the government launched the programme in schools to teach students about ecological balance, biodiversity, importance of planting saplings and increasing green cover.

Growing of saplings is a very good thought since it has many benefits, but at the same time if it is not executed properly then results will not be good. With a perfect action plan, officials of various departments must make the vanamahotsavam a grand success.

While planting saplings on either side of roads, empty places near tanks and canals, steps should be taken to protect 100 percent of saplings.

Awareness should be spread among people about the importance of the planting of saplings before undertaking distribution of saplings.

The forest cover in Mulugu district is around 76 to 77 per cent because of which the highest amount of rainfall is witnessed in the district. To restore the rain water, officials must construct lakes, ponds and check dams.

Restoration of rain water will not only be beneficial for trees, it will also be helpful for wild animals. People living near forest region should never cut down trees, otherwise action would be taken against them, she warned.

Later, the minister along with district collector Diwakar, additional collector Srija and DFO Rahul Kishan Jadhav had meals with students and spent time with them.
