Anti-drug clubs in schools, colleges
Chennai:In bid to ramp up the anti–drug awareness campaign and involve students as stakeholders in the endeavour, two programmes are to be launched in the State, one by starting a 30 hour volunteering programme with NSS/ NCC/ RRC/ YRC volunteers and the other to set up Anti Drug Club in all educational institutions.
An official press release on Wednesday said the initiative would engage students in anti-drug activities with the clubs in every school, college and educational institutions monitored and regulated by district-level committees led by the District Collector.
Though the Tamil Nadu Police had already issued notifications to educational institutions to launch the clubs and the volunteer teams, the government had now issued a GO to regulate and encourage the Clubs and volunteer teams, the press release said.
Efforts would be made to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs among students and youth and work towards the goal of a drug-free Tamil Nadu through the active involvement of students through the campaign directly targeting students but indirectly creating awareness in the whole society, the release said.
