Chennai: A batch of 37 persons from a wide range of parties, including the BJP and AIADMK, flocked to the TVK headquarters at Panaiyur in Chennai on Saturday, one of the days assigned to admit new members, particularly those coming from other political outfits, and enrolled themselves as members in the presence of party general secretary N Anand.
Prominent among them were K T Pachaimal, a former Minister in the AIADMK government from Kanyakumari, and S Vijayadharani from the BJP. Originally a long-time member of the Congress, Vijayadharani had won the MLA seat from Vilavancode constituency in Kanyakumari constituency three times and defected to the BJP in 2024.
She was one among the 37 persons who joined the TVK, along with former AIADMK MPs N Balaganga, R Vanaroja and A Ilavarasan, besides former Tirunelveli Mayor E Bhuvaneswari, who had already switched parties since 2014. From AIADMK, which made her the Mayor, she moved to the DMK and then to the BJP.
While most of those who joined the TVK were from the AIADMK and the BJP, there were also a member of the O Panneerselvam group, a couple of lawyers, office-bearers of DMK affiliated organisations and the secretary of the CSI Kanyakumari Diocese, S Baiju Nishanth Paul.
Party sources said that president C Joseph Vijay had urged the party leaders to enroll members every weekend and the process would to go on as it welcomed people from other parties and also those with no political experience.
