Close Allies Oppose Murugan Conference

Chennai:Most of the close allies of the DMK have expressed resentment over the State Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR & CE) department organizing the Global Muthamizhil Lord Murugan Conference at Palani and the passing of the resolution for making the study on Lord Murgan a compulsory paper from students of colleges run by the HR & CE department.

After the CPI, CPM and VCK came out heavily on the conference, the Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) president K Veeramani said that the HR & CE department was not meant for religious propaganda but for only protecting the temples and maintaining their accounts.

In a statement on Tuesday, he said the HR & CE department was started by the Justice Party with a view to safeguarding temple properties and taking care of their income and expenses and referred to two of the resolutions passed at the Lord Murugan conference.

The eight resolution for making students recite the Kanda Shasti and the 12th resolution on recommending to the State government to include in the syllabus of the colleges run by temples under the HR & CE department subjects on spirituality are problematic as the DMK government was known for its secularism, he said.
