Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin urged the triumphant DMK MPs to work hard, compelling the weak BJP-led government in New Delhi to serve the people, by raising issues and placing appropriate demands through active participation in Parliamentary debates and making use of the opportunity provided by the increase in number of opposition members in the House unlike the previous Lok Sabha.
Addressing the MPs at the party headquarters on Saturday, Stalin, while giving them a set of instructions, reminded them that they were at a crucial moment in history and told them to raise issues concerning the State and its rights on the floor of the House and also fighting for securing them.
Cautioning them to be careful as they would be closely watched by the people with just two more years left for the Assembly elections, he said that they should plan their visits to the constituencies based on their Delhi programmes to convey their thanks to the people by coordinating with party leaders.
Urging them to immediately make efforts to open their MPs offices, he said they should make public the time when they would be free to meet the people and stick to the schedule without making visitors wait or miss the meetings. Contact details like email id and mobile phone numbers should be provided to the voters in the constituency to enable them to reach out to them whenever they wanted, he said.
Stressing on the need to be regular in attending the sessions, listening to all the speeches and also to go through the party manifesto once again, he said the MPs should know the party’s principles and policies to take part in the discussions and raise the right issues with the right perspective on the floor of the House.
It was their duty to make demands in the House that would lead to the implementation of the various promises that were given through the manifesto, he said.
Putting an end to NEET, the medical entrance examination that the DMK had been opposing, was a task entrusted with the MPs through a resolution passed at the meeting.
Among the other resolutions passed were one on putting up a persistent fight in Parliament to get the finances for the schemes of the State and for the language and State rights and another on reinstalling the statues of national leaders that were removed from the Parliament premises.
The first resolution thanked party president Stalin and the people of the State for handing over the overwhelming victory of the DMK and its allies to the State in the war to regain democracy and for guiding the INDIA coalition leaders in the elections.
The meeting also resolved to organize a Muperum Vizha (Three Great Festivals) at Coimbatore on June 5 to thank the people for the historic victory of the DMK and its alliance in the Lok Sabha elections, to mark the grand valedictory for the birth centenary of M Karunanidhi and to felicitate Stalin for his hard work in achieving the electoral victory.
