CM responds to Vijay’s broadside on DMK
Chennai: In an apparent retort to Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) founder president Vijay’s broadside against the DMK at his party’s maiden conference, Chief MInister M K Stalin said random people were cropping up to launch new political parties and were all vowing to destroy the DMK without even bothering to know of the present government’s achievements on various fronts in the past over three years when the State had come on top of the pack.
After Vijay declared the DMK as TVK's political enemy and also mocked the ruling party for calling the BJP as a ‘fascist’ party on October 27 at V Salai near Vikravandi in Villupuram district, raising an instant uproar among many politicians and in social media, this was the first time, the DMK was responding to it with Stalin only saying, ‘long live the slur brigade.’
Speaking at a meeting organized at the Anitha Achievers Academy, a project to prepare youth from poor families for employment, in his home constituency of Kolathur, the Chief Minister said that he did not want to respond to the naysayers for there was no need for it when his party was only focused on doing positive things for the welfare of the people, which was evident from the manner in which the recent floods were handled by the administration.
The quick and efficient management of the rain situation, which was a far cry from what happened during the 2015 rains when officials could not reach the then Chief Minister to get permission for opening the sluice gates of the Chembarambakkam reservoir, saw not only the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, but also Ministers and others continuously on their toes providing succor to the people, yet the social media and a section of mainstream media were trying to nitpick, he said.
Even photographs taken during the earlier floods were used to send across a wrong message because they abhorred the DMK’s growth and the newcomers to politics were also following the same trend, he said, adding that his government was well aware of the faith reposed by the people on the DMK government would live up to the confidence through its real action throughout.
Like the Anitha Achievers Academy, a private initiative named after S Anitha, a school final topper from Ariyalur who died by suicide after failing to get admission in medical college in 2017 because of the introduction of NEET, that was launched with a view to uplifting students from poor background, the present government had also launched a plethora of welfare schemes aimed at uplifting the downtrodden, he said.
Referring to NEET, Stalin said that he hoped that it would be eliminated some time or the other. As of now the case against its implementation was pending in court and that a favourable resolution would come to the State sooner or later, he said.
The present Dravidian Model government was functioning with a long term vision as the best State in the country with investors coming from all over to the State to start new ventures in view of its qualified manpower churned out by the educational institutions in the State, he said
