CM Stalin Accuses EPS of Spreading Lies Over DMK’s Success

Chennai: Launching a broadside against AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswamy for unfairly nitpicking on the government’s accomplishments, Chief Minister M K Stalin accused the Leader of the Opposition of resorting to lies as he was jealous of the continuous victories of the DMK government that were brought about by the successive implementation of a series of welfare and other schemes in the last three years.

Speaking at a government function organized at Erode on Friday in connection with government schemes totally worth Rs 1368.88 crore, Stalin remembered Erode East MLA, E V K S Elangovan, who passed away recently and also mentioned Erode as the place that wrote the new history of the State by giving Periyar E V Ramasamy to the world.

He inaugurated completed schemes worth Rs 951.20 crore, laid the foundation for 222 new projects worth Rs 133.66 crore and distributed assistance valued at 284.02 crore to 50,088 beneficiaries and also announced eight new schemes for Erode district, including the development of roads at a cost of Rs 100 crore.

It was the DMK government’s successful implementation of schemes for the welfare of the people that had made Palaniswami come out with false allegations like the government not alerting the public before the opening of the Sathanur dam when the State was receiving unprecedented rains brought by Cyclone Fengal.

The truth was that unlike the opening of the Chembarambakkam lake during the AIADMK government in 2015 without any prior warning, leading to the death of 200 people and the washing away of 23 lakh houses in Chennai, give warnings were issued to the people before water was released from the Sathanur dam and that was the reason why there were no casualties.

When the 2015 flood havoc, which was termed as a man-made disaster by the Comptroller and Auditor General report later, happened, none of the Ministers were on the field unlike the time when Cyclone Fengal ravaged the State that saw the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, a host of Minister and other officials out on the field to provide succor to the people.

Since the government exposed the lies of the AIADMK on Cyclone Fengul disaster in the Assembly, Palaniswami immediately shifted to the tungsten mining controversy, against which the government moved a resolution in the House. Speaking on the resolution, Palaniswami was criticizing the DMK government without making a mention of the Union Government auctioning the block for mining and exploration, he pointed out.

Later it was also revealed that the AIADMK MPs had supported the Bill providing for tungsten mining rights in Lok Sabha, he said. When the DMK exposed that Palaniswami made a big hue and cry by raising his voice, giving credence to the adage ‘empty vessels made noise,’ though there was not an iota of truth in his entire screaming, Stalin said.

During the four year rule of Palaniswami, the State’s rights were pledged and many people were betrayed because he wanted to protect his government and to safeguard his selfish interests, he said and challenged the AIADMK members of Parliament to raise a single question against the Union Government on the deprival of the State’s rights.
