CM Stalin not to attend Raj Bhavan tea party

Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin is unlikely to attend the At Home tea party hosted by Governor R N Ravi at the Raj Bhavan on Sunday evening as Stalin would be taking an Air India flight to Madurai at 11.45 am after attending the official Republic Day celebrations in the morning.
Since the people of Arthapatti in Madurai district have called for a function to thank the Chief Minister for making successful efforts to stop the implementation of the tungsten mining project near Melur, Stalin would leave for Madurai after the morning Republic Day events.
The alliance partners of the DMK have already announced a boycott of the tea party on Sunday and now with the Chief Minister too not attending the event, it is unlikely that the other Ministers will be present at Raj Bhavan.
DMK sources said that the party leaders would also boycott the event on the lines of their allies, Congress, VCK and the two Communist parties, who have boycotted the tea party to express their protest against the Governor’s anti-Tamil attitude.
Stalin will be returning to Chennai by a 7 pm Indigo flight from Madurai that will reach Chennai by 8.25 pm, leaving no scope for him to visit Raj Bhavan in the evening for the tea party.
Though the relationship between the DMK government and the Governor has been strained since the beginning, the Chief Minister and his colleagues have attended many of the at-home tea parties, while the alliance parties keep off most of the time.
This year, with the relationship straining further, it could be a total boycott by the members of the ruling alliance.
