CHENNAI: Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay chaired a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat to assess the performance of the municipal administration and water supply department and the rural development and panchayat raj department, with special focus on ensuring uninterrupted drinking water supply across the state during the peak summer season.
He directed officials to address drinking water shortages in all districts, including areas under the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), on a war-footing. He instructed to take immediate measures to ensure regular water distribution through tankers, sinking of new borewells and other alternative arrangements wherever required.

With the northeast monsoon season approaching, Vijay instructed GCC and all local bodies to expedite desilting operations and flood mitigation works.
Chief secretary M. Sai Kumar, additional chief secretary of the rural development and panchayat raj department, Gagandeep Singh Bedi, principal secretary of the municipal administration and water supply department, Karthikeyan, GCC Commissioner, J. Kumaragurubaran and Chennai metropolitan water supply and sewerage board managing director T.G. Vinay participated in the meeting.
