CM’s reply triggers nasty exchange

Chennai:Chief Minister M K Stalin’s reply to the Leader of the Opposition, Edappadi K Palaniswami, on the honouring of election promise at the public function in Sivaganga, triggered an exchange of broadsides between both the parties each accusing the other of not implementing projects announced in their respective manifestos.

Angered by the Chief Minister’s comment that the Leader of the Opposition should not talk like a rumour monger indulging in empty talk, Palaniswami came out with a long reply hitting out strongly at him and issuing a warning to listen to what he said and take appropriate action on them.

Replying to the questions raised by the Chief Minister on the AIADMK’s track record on fulfilling poll promises like the subsidy for scooters for women, the AIADMK general secretary said that all those promises were fulfilled without fail.

Soon after Palaniswami came up with the allegations against the DMK government, State Municipal Administration Minister K N Nehru came up with a clarification that 389 of the 505 election promises were fulfilled.

He said Palaniswami was agitated because the Chief Minister was specific in his reply and said that the petitions received from the people by the DMK before the elections were looked into and all the grievances were addressed before the 100 days deadline through the setting up of an exclusive department for it.

The Minister said that many of the grievances had not been addressed by the previous government for many years.
