EPS Wants Cops to Be Given Freedom to Crackdown on Criminals

Chennai: Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Edappadi K Palaniswami urged the State government to allow the police department to freely crack down on anti-social elements who were running amok creating law and order problems besides indulging in crimes that were continuing unabated.

Listing out a series of crimes that happened on the night of May 29 when 6 murders were reported, a drug consignment from Mumbai was caught, a minor girl was sexually harassed, bombs were hurled inside a textile shop and college students were caught selling narcotics, he said the police enjoyed full freedom in controlling crime during the AIADMK rule.

Now the situation was such that both the public and the police were feeling insecure as the last 36 months had seen an increase in all kinds of crimes.
