Edappadi K Palaniswami Wants Survey of Crop Damage and Relief
Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami urged the State government to make an assessment of the damage to crops in the two-day rains brought about by the depression in the delta districts of Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur and Cuddalore and other places and pay adequate compensation to the affected farmers.
In a statement on Friday, Palaiswami said the heavy rains had submerged crops as rivers and rivulets were in spate weakening the banks of the waterways. He wanted officials from the revenue and water resources departments to assess the banks and strengthen them.
In Tirunelveli and some other districts, many housing colonies were marooned by the rain waters, he said and urged the authorities to engage motor pumps to clear the water and also provide relief to the people by providing them food, shelter and medical facilities.
Even the relief provided for victims of Cyclone Fengal had not reached all, he said, demanding the rectification of such anomalies.
