Indian Coast Guard Marks 49th Raising Day on 1 Feb
Coast Guard Celebrates 49 Years of Strengthening Maritime Security and Expanding Capabilities

Chennai: Announcing the seizure of contraband worth Rs 52,560.96 crore in a single year, including the recent record seizure of 6,016 kg of narcotics in a single catch in the Andaman Sea, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) said on Friday that it was poised to achieve its target force levels of 200 surface platforms and 100 aircraft by 2030.
In a statement issued on the eve of its 49th Raising Day that falls on Saturday, IGC said that it kept solidifying its position by increasing its capacity as one of the world’s premier Coast Guard services. From its humble beginnings in 1977 with just seven surface platforms, the ICG has grown into a formidable force, comprising 151 ships and 76 aircraft.
On the occasion of the Raising Day, the President, Vice President, Prime Minister and Defence Minister have extended their heartfelt congratulations to the ICG, recognizing its significant role in safeguarding India’s maritime interests.
