Madras HC Rejects Plea Over Vijay’s ₹12.6 Crore Loan Disclosure
The petitioner claimed that Sangeetha Vijay had filed for divorce from Vijay, raising doubts about the declaration in the nomination papers

Chennai: The Madras High Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking an inquiry into actor and TVK chief Vijay over his election affidavit, in which he stated that he had lent Rs 12.60 crore to his wife.
The order came in a case filed by Venkatesh, a voter from the Perambur constituency. The petitioner claimed that Sangeetha Vijay had filed for divorce from Vijay, raising doubts about the declaration in the nomination papers.
He argued that disclosure of assets in an election affidavit is not a mere formality and that suppressing facts would amount to cheating the electoral process. He also questioned the lack of explanation regarding Rs 20 crore reportedly given to a private educational trust.
Hearing the matter, a bench comprising Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arulmurugan noted that a similar petition seeking the same relief had already been dismissed earlier and therefore could not be entertained again.
Accordingly, the Madras High Court dismissed the petition.
Vijay’s entry into Tamil Nadu politics has turned the Assembly elections into a three-way contest. His party, TVK, is competing against the ruling DMK-led alliance and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance.
Polling for the Assembly elections concluded at 6 pm on Thursday, with Tamil Nadu recording a turnout of 85.1 per cent, according to the Election Commission of India.
The high turnout reflects strong voter participation amid tight security arrangements across constituencies. Results will be declared on May 4, along with Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, and Puducherry.
