Naxals, Including Women, Surrender Before CM in Karnataka

Bengaluru:Heeding to a call by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to naxals to give arms and rejoin mainstream of the society, six naxals-Mundagaru Latha, Vanajakshi Balehole, Sundari Kulathuru, Vasanth alias Ramesh, Jesha and Mareppa Arolli surrendered before the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Mundagaru Latha and Vanajakshi belong to Chikkamagaluru, Sunadri Kulanthuru belongs to Dakshina Kannada, Mareppa Arolli, Vasanth and Jesha, all belong to Raichur in Karnataka. On their surrender, the Chief Minister handed the surrendered naxals a copy of the Constitution.

The appeal from the Chief Minister came after a meeting with progressive and public-spirited persons on December 30 last year. Siddaramaiah assured under naxal surrender policy all surrendered naxals will be suitably rehabilitated.

While asking naxals to give up arms struggle, he issued a warning to naxals to deal sternly to maintain law and order in the society and establish peace.

One of the six surrendered naxals, Mundagaru Latha, a native of Chikkamagaluru thanked CM to rejoin the mainstream of the society and she returned to the mainstream of the society by undergoing reforms. She assured to continue her fight for the society through Constitutional ways.

Welcoming the naxals decision to surrender, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated the State Government initiated steps for early settlement of cases against surrendered naxals.

With the surrender, Chief Minister exuded confidence that the State will be a naxal free State and hoped that the surrendered naxals will lead their lives in an responsible manner.

Parvatish Bilidale, who played a key role in the surrender of 6 naxals, said Shanthigagi Nagarikara Vedike among others played a major role in the surrender of naxals and eventually their collective efforts bore fruits after a year-and-half.

Litterateur Banjagere Jayaprakash who was instrumental in naxals surrender said the State Government agreed to announce a new package for rehabilitation of surrendered naxals which facilitated smooth surrender of naxals.

Minister of Home Dr G Parameshwar termed the naxals surrender as a “historic” day in the history of the State.
