Release funds without delay: CM Stalin

In all the schemes reviewed, Tamil Nadu had done well, the Chief Minister said.

Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin urged the Union Government to release funds due for its welfare schemes that were being implemented in the State without delay as the holding back of the resources had an adverse effect on the benefits of the programmes reaching those at the tail end of the chain.

Speaking at the fourth review meeting of DISHA (District Development Coordination and Monitoring) committee to review the progress of the 67 schemes of the Union Government in the State, Stalin said the State government was releasing its share of funds for the projects on time and ensuring the benefits reaching beneficiaries at the tail end.

Tamil Nadu was on top in the implementation of Prime Minister’s Rural Road Scheme, he said and added that the State government had increased its designated share of Rs 48,000 for the Prime Minister’s Rural Habitation project for the construction of a house by another Rs 1.20 lakh to enable the beneficiaries to lay concrete roofs.

Among the demands the Chief Minister raised through the meeting were to increase the value of the subsidy for the housing project to Rs 3.50 lakh from the present Rs 1.20 lakh in view of the rise in costs of materials used in construction and wages.

Another demand was to raise the ceiling of 5 hectares now in force for beneficiaries of the National Agricultural Development scheme who are given subsidies for carrying out irrigation in their field.

In all the schemes reviewed, Tamil Nadu had done well, the Chief Minister said.
