Tamil Nadu: CM Stalin asks police recruits to be kind to people

Chennai: Calling upon police recruits to have a social justice perspective, an abiding belief in secularism, no feelings of caste discrimination, a non-partisan attitude giving importance to the rule of law and a kind heart to those who approach them with problems, Chief Minister M K Stalin said detecting crimes was not an achievement but preventing them was.

Speaking at an event organized by the State Home department on Wednesday to give away appointment orders to 3359 persons recruited to fill vacancies of second grade police constables, prison guards and fire personnel, Stalin said police personnel should talk softly to complainants and express a kind demeanor that were important for the common people to develop confidence on the police solving their problems.

Though they would be assigned varied duties, the police should ensure law and order and prevent the occurrence of crime, besides gearing up to meet the modern day challenges that would be thrown up in the form of solving cybercrimes, elimination of narcotic and prevention of crimes against women and children, Stalin told the recruits, welcoming them to the 165 year old force.

He said the recruits had come in at an era that was considered to be a golden period for the police, who had been extended a plethora of privileges by the present DMK government that had made 17,435 recruitment in the police department, 1252 in the fire service and 366 in prison service during the past three years.

Stressing on the importance of maintaining law and order, Stalin said industries would come into the State only if they felt safe and only if companies started units would new job opportunities open up, which in turn would take care of the people's needs and give them peace of mind.

Urging the recruits to take care of their health and also their families even as they were duty conscious and responsible in the jobs, he told them that they should remain as active as they were now till the time they retire from service and also equip themselves to the modern developing technologies.

He would be happy only when police personnel recalled that they received their appointment orders from the Chief Minister while receiving an award in future, Stalin said.

To the police officers also he had a piece of advice: Unmindful of their rank seniority, they should move friendly with the lower level police personnel invoking respect and fear and the department should function as a family.

Another advice to the new recruits was not to take pride in the reduction of crime but on the elimination of them.
