Tamil Nadu CM Stalin Pledges Support for Government School Students Education

Chennai: Students from government schools entering the portals of premier educational institutions was a great social economic revolution, Chief Minister M K Stalin said, announcing that the educational expenses of those enrolling in India institutions and the maiden travel expense of those going abroad would be met by the State government.

Speaking at a meeting organized to felicitate 447 students of government schools who had gained admissions in prestigious courses in eminent universities and colleges and 14 others in universities in countries like Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan, Stalin said that it was an achievement of his government and assured support to the students all along.

With 75 students getting selected for the premier institutions in 2022, the number went up to 274 in 2023 and had now touched 447 with many colleges and universities yet to start admissions for the academic year, he said.

The growing trend that started with the opening of model schools was due to the policies of the DMK government that had launched a slew of schemes to help students reach greater heights in education, say like the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, and the setting up of high tech laboratories in government schools.

Even the launch of the Pudumai Penn scheme had led to a 34 per cent increase in enrolment of girls in institutions of higher education and the State had already reached the top of the chart in college enrolment in the country, he said.

Now students learn subjects in the revised syllabus and even the answers for the model question papers through animation facilities in classrooms and hence were able to gain admission in premier institutions that were not just the IITs and NITs but also national law schools and other learning centres that included space exploration.

The government school students had proved to the world that they were second to none and their achievement was a success to the State that would dominate areas of higher learning like space research.

To the heads of the institutions where the students would soon start attending classes, Stalin had a request. He wanted them all to treat the students with due dignity and as representatives of the State. Urging them to encourage, motivate and nurture the students, he also had a special request to the heads of institutions from Taiwan where some students were set to go.

He wanted them to take care of the children from Tamil Nadu as their own and extend all necessary support and help to them.

His advice to the students was to develop self-confidence and never lose focus on their studies. As they would have surmounted several obstacles to reach the present stage in their life, they would come across more hurdles but should overcome them as they were the pride of not just Tamil Nadu but of India, he said.

Referring to the speech of State Minister for School education, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Stalin said that 54 of the students being felicitated were differently abled, which was a great achievement of those who groomed them. All the achievers were the future educational assets of the State, he declared
